I'm very happy with my new guitar. It came very well packaged and in perfect condition. The black finish with white binding is beautiful. It seems to be very well made with a lot of attention to detail. It was set-up well right out of the box. I had a couple of questions for Customer Service, and they responded the same day! I'm pretty much a beginner, but to me it sounds great. I was surprised to find that the cavity is shielded, I didn't expect that in a budget guitar. And it comes with a 3-ply gig bag, strap, and cord.
I did notice that the fretboard was pretty dry. I had read in reviews that this common and was kind of expecting it. A $7 bottle of fretboard conditioner fixed that. That's really the only bad thing I can say about the guitar. I think it's incredible for the price!

Love the pickups in this guitar. I also love how light it is. I’ve only been playing guitar for 8 months but in my opinion I think this guitar sounds great.

Great Les Paul knock off! Only complaint is it does not seem to stay in tune for long. It maybe the tuners and I may consider an upgrade to Sperzel's to improve it. Had to set intonation as well as some strings where sharp up an octave. Nice tone and great playability. For $156, it's a bargain though so do not consider my comment about tuning negative is any way.

The Donner 124SB guitar is mind blowing. The workmanship is flawless, especially the white binding. Just as good as guitars costing 10 times the amount. 90% set up right out of the box which is excellent. Pickups are also good for the price. Only downside is the tuning keys. They are of poor quality and slip. . I replaced mine with Grover’s. Who wouldn’t want Grover’s anyway. You will not be disappointed with this guitar. So what are you waiting for. Jump on line and get yourself one today. Terry A. Missouri

Quite a bargain action and tone good . Slightly damaged in shipping on two of the same guitars . Both damaged slightly in the same place .bottom of wood below volume knobs along white trim ring

The Donner DLP-124 is an incredible value. I have several guitars that I paid a lot more money for but the DLP-124 is a real joy to play and real nice to look at. You get a lot for your money. My only critique are the tuners. I will be swapping them out with Grovers. The bridge and saddle are ok and the pickups are good. The bridge pickup could be a little brighter but it's still good enough to get the job done. The finish is very well done too. I didn't expect a lot for what I paid but I will say I was pleasantly surprised withvtge overall quality of this guitar. The strap and cable are very good too, but I was really pleased to see that they included a very nice gig bag that actually had some padding in it. Most guitars in this price range includes a gigbag that is nothing more than a dust cover. I appreciate Donner making quality instruments that most anyone can afford. Great job Donner!!!
YOLANDA S.
very satisfied because it is a good instrument and it was not necessary to leave the house because here I ordered and here it arrived very on time.

Not bad for a cost effective guitar. Tweaked the action and cleaned up the fret ends. Actually a decent guitar for the price.

Amazing job. My second Donner electric guitar. I mod out inexpensive but quality guitars and this is the best so far. Binding on the neck and body, sweet paint and amazing neck. Mine came flamed. Roto style tuners, which I replace. Bone nut, nice size control cavity. love mines

This is a really nice guitar for the price point. Appearence wise it is beautiful! Minor set up and ready to play.

Stunning guitar, fit and finish flourless, neck & fretwork absolutely spot on, more than adequate pickups, sounds great & plays very nicely. I’m blown away to be honest and now thinking of getting the T style model.I’ve owned more expensive guitars in my past but this has to be the best value for money instruments I’ve ever purchased. I’ll probably change the pickups for something a bit more in your face and the tuning heads only because I like locking heads. Comes with a basic gig bag a nice strap and a very nice quality lead, the strings are 9s I also have a Donner Circle Looper and a 3 in one fx peddle, both awesome well made bits of kit, Donner seem to be a company that actually cares about what they do and their quality control is on the money, in my opinion a name you can trust

So pleased with this guitar!!!!

These seems to sell at various prices. I got it for $144 free shipping and for that price it’s very worth it, maybe even $200 would be ok but IMO not for $250 but this is a great value guitar. Perfect for beginner because it has a nice neck smooth frets action is not bad a tad high (and not lower able because the tail piece and bridge are on mine at least, set to the lowest point. But totally ok for anyone it’s easy to fret notes and they all play without buzzing. There a guy who has a video claiming out of the box demo (but he did change strings) but mine needed some tune-o-matic saddle adjustments. Final word it’s super high quality for $200 or less and a great beginner guitar. Seems like quality control is high so you’ll get a decent one every time.
Gavin Thorpe
The guitar it self is great and has great sound but it came with an extremely warped neck so it's constantly buzzing. The tuning pegs also suck. But besides that it is a great looking and sounding guitar. I was impressed with the quality for how cheap it is and it doesn't feel cheap either.

I found my Gem in a pawnshop.I own a highend BcRich,I love it but its very heavy. after 45mins of standing and playing hurts...so I wanted a cheap lighter guitar.Man was I pleasantly surprised with my black Donner for only 70bux...still had original rusty strings..I knew it wasnt played much...New strings.Sounds and Looks great!! I STOLE IT!

As someone who always wanted to add a Les Paul to my collection, this was a good inexpensive choice. The guitar looks great and when connected to a good amp, like my Fender Champion 100, sounds great. I only play at home for my own enjoyment, so this is a good set up. The guitar was decent enough out of the box but I will change out the strings and file the fret edges. Other than that the nect was straight and the action was set right. All in all, a great value.

Even my son's guitar teacher was surprised by the amazing quality and build of his electric guitar. Highly recommend this electric guitar for beginners upto intermediate

I am 100% pleased with this guitar. I am picky when it comes to guitars (no pun intended) and this one is not only great for beginners but a pro would even praise it's quality for the price. The neck is really straight. The intonation was set nearly perfectly on arrival. Tuners are jumpy but I planned on switching them out with high end Gotoh's anyway. The bridge saddles weren't filed real well so the E and A string were rattling at the saddle which I just folded a piece of 800 grit sand paper and smoothed them up by using the folded edge of the sand paper to fit the string groove. The guitar does need a setup but most of it is pretty close to Les Paul specs. The humbuckers are great sounding after adjusting the poles to match the neck radius. I recommend this guitar to anyone that is worried about getting the wrong guitar or fear that they might be unsatisfied. This guitar is the number one selling beginners guitar right now and I see why now.
Scott B
Got this for my son, who wants to be a guitarist. He's learned a lot while using this. He said his friends give him a lot of compliments and asks where he got it. Great beginner guitar.
Dave
I know most people talk about buying this as their first guitar...this is actually my third Donner guitar, and I just started playing a year ago. I started on an acoustic, then bought the sunburst strat, and now this one. Obviously I've been very happy with Donner's products, but that does come with a bit of a caveat. As a beginner, I don't really have an ear for different quality pickups. I am strictly a hobbyist playing for myself, by myself, sitting on a couch, and for the shear enjoyment of learning something new. For that purpose, the pickups are just fine. I've learned how to measure and adjust things like string action and intonation, and this one was setup well out of the box. I was actually a bit surprised that the string action came setup as low as it did from the manufacturer. I measured the low and high E strings at 2.3 and 1.8. There were no sharp frets or fret sprout and the finish is beautiful.
My only "complaints" if you can even call it that...the frets were pretty rough and needed polished. No big deal but some beginners may not have a polishing kit or learned how to do that. Personally, I didn't like the look of the tone and volume knobs so I changed them out for black metal ones. The biggest issue, though, is the tuners. They suck. Lots of jump and they constantly need re-tuned. I've found this is a common complaint amongst much more professional reviews of this guitar and I agree. I will be changing them out for locking tuners in the near future. Tuning stability is so important for a guitar that I think if Donner would start putting some decent, name brand tuners on these, I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to pay a little bit more.
Overall a great guitar. I've been really happy with Donner products and greatly appreciate what they've done for the beginner and hobbyist guitar market.
William
What an amazing value. This is NOT a cheap $200 guitar, it looks, feels, and plays like a guitar that costs three times as much. Pretty decent setup right out of the box. The strings are not good and don’t stay in tune, but most stock strings are junk so that’s to be expected. The pickups are much, much better than I expected at this price point, as is the finish - it is a beautiful instrument, it actually looks better in person than in pictures. You cannot find a better guitar at this price point.

Sounds great looks great no flaws great bargain for the price great for your first electric guitar

Over guitar is nice, but were some scratches on the front of the guitar, which I wasn't expecting. I do like it. But not Happy with the scratches.

I love the sound and the look. I've used an expensive LP style guitar before and it was a wonderful guitar. This DLP 124S I bought is the truth. If it wasn't for the name printing on the headstock, nobody would know that this is a budget guitar. Honestly, I like this Donner DLP 124s better than the expensive brand....
Marie
It's a great guitar for a beginner. But anyone with experience would probably get an actually electric guitar worth some value.
Roy B. Rachels
great guitar for the price, took advice from some yt videos, lowered the action a bit, polished the neck and sharp fret edges, and oiled the fret board it plays so smooth now.

Arrived ok, well packaged. No shipping damage. A great first guitar, for beginners.

I just wanted a cheap guitar to try. Cheap it is. Made in China. Comes with everything listed. A lot of distortion in amp. I will still use as a practice guitar.
claudecat
Very happy with this ultra-cheap gem. Wasn't expecting perfection, and this ain't completely perfect, but I was shocked at how well this thing is put together. Finish is flawless, tuners are fine, bridge and nut more than adequate. I've played and owned guitars orders of magnitude more expensive (in today's dollars anyway) than this that ain't half as nice, both visually and aurally. As someone that used to play blues band gigs in a previous life I wouldn't hesitate to play this onstage, so no, not necessarily just for beginners. The strings are my only complaint. They looked fine, felt fine (not oily or dirty etc.), but just wouldn't hold tune. I was afraid the neck was messed up or I'd need to really play with things to get tuning under control, but as soon as I put on a fresh set of strings it was fine. In fact, it revealed itself as being set up really well for lighter strings (I put 9's on it). Action is nice and low and it plays easier than any electric I've owned (Strats mostly, also a Mosrite, various oddball archtops), mainly due to the shorter scale length, and the pickups sound great to me. Some real growl (almost Tele-like) from the bridge pickup. I'd recommend this to anyone that plays electric guitar, regardless of skill level. You don't have to buy the cool brands to play a better than decent instrument! The only negative with items like this is that it's not unheard of for one or a few to be less than perfect enough to be a problem. That's why you use Amazon though, right? You get a bad one you just return it! Glad I got a good one.

How can I turn down the volume ?

I typically play a Strat. I bought this guitar to try something new. Honestly, I LOVE this guitar. It feels good to play, it sounds great. I have played it much more than my Strat since it arrived. Here are my concerns with this guitar. There were problems out of the gate. I had to lower the action; not a big deal, but if you don't know what you are doing, you may have an issue with this. The frets were not sanded down along the edges. Again, not a big deal. I had to change strings and do a little filing before restringing. The final problem was the tone knob was loose making it feel like it didn't work correctly. To sum it up, if I was afraid of setting up my own guitar, and didn't want to spend money to have it set up, I would be disappointed. With that being said, after making the minor fixes, I absolutely LOVE this guitar.

Just have to take time and follow use instructions!

Hi, I will make this short, but I could go on for A long time. First depending on your experience level, there are A few things you might want to do, but they are not necessary, One ; I Epoxied the neck to the body, I have done this on my best Guitars . Two ; I put Brass ( Gold colored) covers over my Pickups, again not necessary ( just for looks ) Three ; I put some D ‘Adderio 80/20 .009” Strings on This is necessary, my favorite low priced strings. Four ; I have not done this yet, but I have done it on all the Guitars I own, you can find everything that I have done on YouTube , when you change Strings, take masking tape, and place it where your neck meets the body, both sides, up at the head, where the neck meets the head tape it off also, Purchase A medium fine sponge sanding block, and sand where the fretboard meets the side of the neck. Don’t be intimidated by these instructions, if you do this you will have A Guitar in the $ 1,000 price range, REALLY ! Donner makes in my estimation some of the best factory pickups on the market, I have compared them to some of the most expensive on the market, and was amazingly surprised. Jim

Perfect for a beginner, and pro alike, beautiful finish, satin neckback easy to play, sound is great, verry decent pickups, spot on intonation, frets are good, only 2 that needed to be slightly filed for smooth playing, amazing price and with a nice gig bag, strap and really nice 10 foot instrument cable. Totally recommend this guitar and accessories.

Very impressed on the solid weight on this product.
It has easy to use tunes.

It’s ok for beginners practicing placement of their hands or matching reading music to notes, but I wish I would’ve spent a bit more money and gotten something better quality.

the product cant work. I contacted the manufacturer for support, like it says to on this site, and they sent me back to here where there is no one I can find to help resolve this. Pretty unsatisfied.

Great construction and playability

I bought this for my son as he wanted to learn, so I figured it makes more sense than letting him try a more expensive one lol.

I bought this model because the one I wanted was out of stock.

The unit is functional and sounds good. At the price range, I would say that it is a worthwhile purchase, and it would be better to have a manual.

Great for beginners and space limitations. It feels pretty good playing it and the sound quality is good for the price. A detailed user's manual with list of presets would be very helpful.

I am not a pro-Guitarist. My Guitars are only used for ROCKSMITH 2014 so my feedback is limited to someone of my experience as a beginner. I own two beginner Guitars One Electric and Electric bass. In addition to the one purchased for this review. - Presentation: When I opened the box the I saw an item that was wrapped with such care that made me realize that I can expect more from the equipment of this price range. Previous guitars were ok but not to the extent that this Guitar was packaged. - It matched every little detail in the picture to the volume nob. Only one of my previous guitars had a discrepancy. - Out of the box usage: Minimal Adjustment required. The other two that I one required 35 minutes of tuning. Not sure what pros would say about this but again no baseline because I lack the experience that pros have on what to expect. Mind you that I took the time to educate myself on properly tuning a guitar to standards. I used that knowledge in all 3 to test with. Strings are standard on all 3 three guitars and I bought a new cable to rule out the old cable. Final thoughts: I totally recommend this to beginners. Again as a beginner myself that is all I can speak on. This Guitar has motivated me to play more cause I can enjoy it more from the feel and comfort to the ease of use. This novice enjoys his purchase to the point that I want to be Great at playing three songs without any assistance or prompts: ALSO: My apologies for any grammatical errors. Wrote this without proofreading.

love the color and finish, tunes easily. Would recommend this to anyone. First one was damaged in shipment, reported it and 3 days later the other came in in perfect condition! Great product and customer service

This solid body guitar plays like other professional guitars while being very affordable. Very, very nice!
Tim Edwards
Very good craftsmanship and sound for the cost. Very comparable to the expensive guitar. Highly recommend for anyone especially beginners.

I love this guitar. There is some fret buz at the first and third fret, but if you can get over that or solve the problem completely then I would recommend this guitar to you.
Dusten c.
I'm loving the dlp ! Got it yesterday after ups delivered to wrong house thankful for good neighbors lol . This girl shreds and plays wonderful. I love the band tool and always wanted a les Paul but I dont morally agree with Gibson's prices , ive played gibsons before and epiphones and this is equal if not better than those ive played and I haven't even set it to my standards yet , shreds and chugs for you metal players and has a beautiful clean tone as well , I gave it 5 stars and stick to that ! My only complaint is there are a few sharp fret ends but nothing that makes this not worth playing , and I'll get that fixed myself no problem, best bang for your buck guitar hands down plays as good as my $400 schecter !
Ralph E. McClain
The guitar looks very nice. The weight isn’t bad at all. A pound lighter than my Monoprice Indio Tele. I am replacing the tuners with Grotoh mini style tuning keys. The holes in the headstock are 10mm diameter which is a good thing. Just match up the tuning peg set screw orientation and the replacement is an easy one.

At the time I could get this from the Donner site for a much reduced cost, but now it’s the same that I paid. However, I didn’t have to pay sales tax. I received the guitar in three days and it was packaged very well. It came with a very nice amp cable, strap and a decent gig bag. The craftsmanship was very nice and the binding was perfect. The finish was excellent and the neck was straight. I took it to my guitar shop and the owner was impressed. He lowered the action and set the intonation. I was going to replace the strings and the tuners, but he said no need because the quality was fine. I like that it is a Les Paul style and I really like the sound from the humbuckers. I’ve been playing it daily and it holds tuning very well. I’m very pleased. Update: I decided to have the strings replaced with.10 nickel D’Addario’s and the upgrade was a big difference. I like a mellower sound then the stock strings gave. I also put a pick guard on it. The Epiphone pick guard needed a bit of modification especially around the volume knob. But it looks great. I’m still impressed with this Donner LP

This is a great guitar for a beginner

Arrived late, but thats not the product's fault.. well packaged, no damage. VERY nice looking. Didnt expect it to be so good. Yes, a few adjustments were necessary out of the box, as well as string settling (going out of tune often at first) but thats expected with any new guitar or even new set of strings. Had planned on getting it as a platform for upgrades, but its already fantastic. A TAD 'brighter' sounding than an epiphone or gibson les paul, but very similar. Got some cheap chrome pickup covers just to make it look a little sharper. Definitely recommend!!! Just keep in mind that some minor adjustments will make it a bit better than 'straight out of the box'.
kristie dees
Very nice guitar for the money. I may just buy one more very soon.

Sounds amazing didn't expect it out of a in expensive guitar
William H.
Beautiful guitar and sounds good to me. Very pleased.
Finoana R.
It’s a good electric guitar for beginners. Easy to play.

Not a $5000.00 custom built guitar...But for a novice player, a $175.00 guitar with a nice gig bag, decent strap and power cord, is awfully hard to beat. A few action tweaks, strings of your choice and your ready to go!
As a lifelong musical instrument technician, I am a bit pickier than most, but with a little custom setup this guitar sounds and plays well enough to serve you until you are ready to purchase a $5000.00 custom guitar!
David
Sounds good, plays good, and looks great. It black so later I plan to trim in gold.
Don W.
Great guitar, great price.
Michael K.
A good beginning guitar and it came fairly quickly and safely. It is just what a beginner needs, including a few challenges, such as the guitar's action and maybe get a better set of strings. I have been working hard to create those calloused finger tips. I have 3 amps, one is a tube type. It sounds great on each of them (Silvertone, Marshall, and Fender Deluxe 85). Incidentally, I am 77 and still think it is possible to learn to play blues. I am already learning several pentatonic scales. Buy one and have some fun!
Cris R.
I love it! I own Glarry, Fender, Ibanez and Kramer. But this one just gets me. Perfect
