Donner Harmonic Square Octave Pedal with 7 Shift Types and 3 Tone Modes Toggles

This is my fourth Donner pedal. The first two, Alpha Cruncher and Jet Convolution are fantastic! The auto-wah is so-so. This Harmonic Square pedal is a tremendous pedal for the money, it sounds fabulous!

Worked great for about a week. Went bad after four rehearsals. Signal won't pass through. Need replacement.

I have had Octave pedals in the past, and frankly didn't get along with them all that well. They seemed more gimmick than musical, and tracked poorly. But it's been years, so let's see what this little box can do. It's a mini pedal, 4 x 1 1/2 inches but surprisingly solid. The metal enclosure has some heft to it, and feels like it will hold up. The switch to turn the pedal on/off is solid, no "how long will this last" feeling here. The layout is somewhat cluttered, as the guys at Donner packed a lot of features into it. Controls include, from top down: Power Supply: DC 9V 3 Way Toggle Switch Wet Control Dry Control Pitch Shift Selector Input & Output Jack Sockets On/Off Switch Since it's a mini-pedal, it doesn't have space for a battery and takes a standard power supply jack. A quick look at the website shows power consumption at 110mA. It's true bypass, so it doesn't color your original tone and its size takes up very little of that valuable pedalboard real estate. There are tons of useable tones, which really surprised me. I expected maybe one or two cool things, but playing with the controls offered lots of inspiring sounds. I especially liked the range this pedal has, with the top toggle up you can go up +2 to +24 semi-tones. You can get both crazy tones, and also by playing with the wet and dry controls you can simulate capoing your guitar, and can get a very useable 12 string electric effect. Toggle down gives the same range below standard pitch. Drop the setting down and turn the dry signal off and you can pull off some fairly convincing bass tones, which you could use recording ideas if you don't have a bass handy. When you do kill all the dry mix, you need to make sure you are loud enough that you don't hear your own guitar. This will sound really odd with some of the settings you come up with. The middle setting on the toggle is a detune feature, and playing with the controls gives a variety of chorus like tones. It has a range of -30 to +30 cents. Tracking was smooth and stable. I've spent a couple weeks with this pedal, and I have to say it's been a blast! Really inspiring, just tweak a couple knobs and see what you have. I meant to post this a few days ago, but frankly every time I have some time I end up playing with this thing. The price is a more than reasonable $50, it's worth the fun factor it delivers. There are some tradeoffs for the size and cost of this pedal from Donner. As I mentioned earlier, it's a mini-pedal so using it on a gig could be tricky unless you are using just one setting. It's hard to see and adjust if you are playing out since it is so small and busy, but at home or studio there is no problem.

I love the sounds I can get from this thing. It really is a lot of fun. Octaves down sounds like I'm playing along with a bass, kinda. Octaves up gets a cool synthesizer effect. Some unwordly sounds can be found in between.

1. The pedal is REALLY small. . .it's difficult to turn the smaller knobs. 2. The main selector know has a mussy feel and it is difficult to make a selection with it (It's like it's already stripped out). 3. Probably works better with an electric distorto-guitar - It didn't work well with my steel string or classical.

This is the second time I purchased the pedal works great for an octave low.

First heard the device when I went to see another band......guitar player was noodling with the device before the show and AS SOON AS I HEARD IT I WANTED ONE ! It also turns out to be a songwriting/arrangement tool that shines new light on old stuff. Lots of fun !

Seams better with guitar. Doesn't handle low note. Legacy and distorted sounds.

Recently got an rc300 looper and wanted a half decent octave pedal to fill out the sound. Have seen the Donner pedals seem to have good reviews so thought I'd take a punt. For such a small pedal it packs in quite a lot, some of it is a bit gimmicky but mostly usable. For my use as a standard octave pedal it does the job quite well. There is a tiny bit of delay in the processed signal but nothing so bad that makes it unusable. I found keeping some of the dry signal you don't notice the delay at all. There are obviously better pedals out there but I can't think of any that can compete for value for money. Will certainly look towards Donner pedals in the future if I want to expand more.

Overall, I really like this pedal except that it introduces some background hiss that can be a problem, especially when used with other pedals in the signal chain. What like is that it does a very accurate shift with many choices of intervals and other than the hiss, the tone is very good.

Love the wide range of sounds available on this one little pedal.

I really like this unit. It's small so it fits on my overcrowded pedal board. The sound quality is great. You can achieve convincing harmonies with this. When I have it set for an octave higher, with a clean tone on my amp i can get a very convincing 12 string guitar effect (which is really why I wanted to buy an octaver)!

The main thing with this type of pedal is whether it tracks well - so many of them (hello, Boss) miss notes or blur things together so much that they're unusable. This one barely misses a beat, and produces good clean lows and crisp highs. Thoroughly worth it.

The full “12” string sound is what I want. Now I have it! Plus just a few tweaks gets a real unique sound. I also use the looper. OMG the best thing for me but my drummer is not too happy. I’ll use the looper and pedal to build my solo shows. Great products. I want to buy another looper/drummer pedal so I have back up. I’m having some issues with the on line pairing however.

I bought two Harmonic Square 7 octave pedals for my bass guitar. I wanted to daisy chain the pedals so to have and octave and a 5th above to mimic a guitar power chord. Unfortunately, the pedals have latency and do not track well on bass. Also, there is sometimes a slight metallic sound on the lower notes that I believe is caused by tracking glitches. These pedals may work fine on a six string guitar, I don't know. Also, Donner Customer Service has been reluctant to issue a refund. Something to also note...

It's fun to play with! But it's a lot noisier than I expected... white noise like it's internal, not buzzy or tonal like one would hear if it was from a power supply or something else. I'm ok with with its discounted price, but I wouldn't record anything while using it because of the noise level.

What a terrific little pedal! This stomp box offers a LOT of value for the price- from being able to emulate dual leads, to adding richness to chording and solos with the 'octavizer'. This effect pedal has a lot of the same qualities of an old pedal I had in the '80's (which was WAY clunkier with many levers and knobs). By contrast, this box is very economical with the use of space and the layout of the knobs- very intuitive and easy to master. This is my second Donner pedal (I also have the tuner mini-pedal), and I would definitely stand by the quality of these products!

This little thing is pretty cool! You just have to know what your trying to do with it or you can get some pretty strange and awful sounds if you are just turning knobs as if it were a drive or phaser. It has many different applications and it’s NOT just for guitar! Try it on bass and definitely synths! Octave up or down and 5th are useful for harmonies, the detune can fatten up an analog synth really nicely. And if you turn the dry all the way down you can use it to change your tuning sort of like a capo but for anything… I wouldn’t put it on the necessities list but it’s a cool extra , and it works nicely. The tracking is good even on chords and has just the slightest amount of noticeable latency.

I've owned a couple of synth guitars (as well as a few keyboard synths) and while synth guitars might be more versatile than this pedal, there can be issues with latency or random pitch glitches or even just settling on a useful tone after lots of fussing around. This little box is magic! Square waves are one of the options with analog synths (others being triangle or sine waves) so this is in fact a mini-synth tone generator. With the switch up it's additive and I can find a searing lead synth tone; with the switch down it's subtractive and can even go low enough to emulate a bass. The middle position is a good chorus, the only drawback there a lack of speed control. Granted these are all preset options, so there's little to adjust except for the variations on the main knob and balancing the original guitar tone with the effect, but bang for buck, this is one of the most fun pedals I've tried in a long time!

Price point is unheard of in the pedal world. What you get in this tiny pedal is huge in sound. It really fattens up your tone on either the chorus setting or with pitch shift with some tweaking. Great for soloing. One of the best tracking pitch shifters I've ever used. Great job Donner !

I love this thing I've had this for about a year now and after you learn how to use it you wont stop its alot of fun. The build quality its pretty decent Im a big guy stomping on it so far no digs for something that wont break the bank this thing is pretty rad!

It works beautifully. It tracks perfectly, and can be used for a variety of applications, such as octaves, re-tuning a few cents here and there, as well as sounding like a chorus if you dial it in right. My only complaint is that it makes a lot of noise when you turn it on/off. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend it, especially for the price.

I bought this hoping to utilise the low octave and 5th options on my bass but it is not well suited as it can't handle the low end of a bass guitar but used on guitar it does it well and would recommend it to any guitarist looking for a budget priced octave pedal. 5 stars because it does the job on 6 string guitar which is what it was designed for. If you are a bass player like me you will have to dig a lot deeper for the same.

this unit is a bit unique to get a good tone... just a lot of funkyness...

Works well with my basses. being able to pitch shift up and down is great (though not at the same time). The octave 1 tracks really well, octave 2 down tracks ok, sometimes struggles on the lower notes, but so did my Boss OC-2. The other detuning options really add some interesting options to the sound, and being able to mix as much as you want with the wet and dry dials is great.

I use pitch shifters a lot with my basses to add texture, octave up and two octave up mainly but the fifth and fourth up are usable too. This pedal does quite nicely and the added bonus is the detune. I find the tracking and sound to be good and pleasant on single notes in all ranges, the HS follows nuances like bends well and will also harmonize harmonics and chords up on the neck. This is the second pedal from Donner and I am quite pleased with the performance and sound of both of them.

I shopped through a lot of different octave petals and options. This pedal is clear and to the point great sounding with easy settings As a matter of fact Donner petals have now caught my attention to such a degree I'm experimenting with several of their products. Definitely worth the purchase especially at the price point A great addition to my pedal board.

first i say, hail donner. they are the kings of affordable effects. i have a bunch and they are all pro quality in sound, looks, and unique effects. these arent simple clones. they all have there own personality and sounds. someone at donner wants to be special and not just another freakin clone! this pedal here the harmonic square has changed neverything for me. it is an all inportant and versatile tool for any guitarist. first off, as usual........top of the line build! they care! this pedal was done right. you cant believe all the different functions and sounds that this pedal provides. ive played for 35 yrs. and have never had an octave till now. holy cow, you can find a thousand sounds with this thing. stack with any other pedals and listen to the magic flow. nothing ive tried with it sounded lame. if your into ambiant, doom metal, pop, country.....i dont care. it allows you to dip into all genres. im using it for ambient rythm and doom metal and couldnt be more satisfied. like i now say...........donner is king. these pedals are solid, silent, snazzy looking and each one has alittle sumn sumn that makes them stand out. dont wait.............get ya one, before there gone 4-ever.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thank you all who labor at donner. i appreciate your hard work , and attention to detail.

This octave pedal is FAR superior to another octave pedal I have which cost 5 times as much. It is totally noiseless. Tones are true.

Of hundreds of pedals I've played, this little Donner Harmonic Square stands out as a "best bang for the buck" because it tracks like a champ and has many, many useful overtones to add harmonics upward and downward from one's original signal.

I bought the Donner Harmonic Pitch Shifter pedal mainly to drop the tuning down from E standard to C and B standard, without having to change strings. The pedal has volume control for "dry" and "wet" output. Dry is your guitar's pitch, wet is the altered pitch output from the pedal. Turning down the dry allows for shifting the pitch up or down in harmonic increments. Having both wet and dry knobs turned up has its uses, but limited in practicality to octaves, fourths and fifths. The detuning mode has interesting results. I use it mainly to alter the pitch of A 440 Hz to A 455 Hz. The Donner pedal works really well with Ubisoft's Rocksmith 2014. No extra noise, no delay, and the true bypass feature is no lie. The pedal is a nice size and lightweight. The body is metal, and of sturdy construction. All the knobs, dials and buttons are standard parts, and can be replaced if worn or damaged after long use. In summary, this is a great pedal for its price. The Donner company is an Amazon partner, so you have the option of ordering from Amazon, or direct from the Donner website. Hook this pitch shifter to a fuzz pedal and...yesssss!

This pedal is great. Quiet, solid, metal, mini pedal. I wanted something to let me loop some bass sounds without buying another guitar. 1 and 2 octave drops sound believable and works great for what I needed. The controls let you take away the guitar sound entirely. Great buy.

I have two Donner pedals & two more on the way! They are a nice addition to my setup and the compact size definitely helps with my space limitations. The pedals work very well and do not produce any noise in my chain.

i have been looking for a way to laydown a bass line to accompany my my music tracks when i came across the Donner Digital Octave Guitar Effect Pedal. After watching/reading reviews on different octave pedals i purchased the Donner octave pedal and couldn't be more pleased with the price, quality and operation. my plan was to find an easy and economical way to laydown bass lines, but now i'm using the rest of the harmonic tones more than the bass octave mode: it's a very versatile tool for making music. i recommend Donner pedals for a musician that appreciates quality, price and function.

I love this little pedal! Most importantly the sound is great. It tracks well and has multiple functions that are actually useable. I like to use the octave up sound as well as the octave down. I wasn’t expecting to get much use out of the 4th up and 5th up sound, but it’s turned out to be a very interesting sound which has inspired new compositions that I would not have otherwise come up with. Beyond that, the build quality seems very good. It’s housed in a metal enclosure. The price was the cherry on top. Very affordable, especially since I happened to get it on sale. And a good sale at that, not just a few dollars off but a good percentage off. I’ll definitely be checking here before making any future purchases.

I really recommend this pedal. It works, and the sound comes through super clean and if you were to be just hearing it you wouldn't be able to differentiate between the pedal effect and an authentic bass. Has some super fun harmonies you can play with by changing the 5ths and 7ths settings sharp or flat, with the detune adding an odd chorus effect that shouldn't work, but does. Can add a lot of flavour to your playing, and if you don't want to learn bass, well, you don't have to, because guitar and octave pedal.

a lot of options in one box Fun for bass and keys too +1 or +2 high and low octaves, 5ths 7ths are very usable and then there are fun dissonant harmony settings too Detune mode makes a great sounding chorus I put mine after my arturia micro brute mono synth before a fuzz and im having lots of fun, honestly kind of want to buy a spare, esp bc it's so affordable!

If you're considering buying a budget octave pedal I would just go ahead try it out. It's an extremely solid and affordable pitch shifter and as of writing this review its on sale so yeah, hop on it! If you are experimenting this a really useful tool to try and make new sounds like thick rock riffs and meaty synth like tones, especially when used with a fuzz or metal boost pedal. In particular this set to octave down plus a Donner Fuzz Seeker makes it feel like I'm Zeus holding lighting in my hands! The important point is that it has pretty much all the same features as comparable models and does those things very well for the price. The tracking felt a bit slow at first because I use SRV style left hand muting so I can run the pick through all the strings but only sounds the ones I'm fretting and getting extra scrape off the ones I'm muting. The extra noise was slowing down the pitch tracking so a small adjustment later and now I find that it's really quite close to real time and that I don't notice any delay after 2 or 3 minutes of rippin'.

You should include a charging unit with this pedal ... It has to have the correct one , not just any 9v charger ... Or at least show it as an option when the customer orders the pedal

Inexpensive but seems solidly built. I bought it for the Octave lowering to play bass on my Tele and it did just fine. The other features work but I haven't really used them yet - like the 12 string sim. The "manual" is just a button namer so you'll need to go on-line to find out how it really works. Too bad they didn't include instructions. I found a nice walk through on youtube with a guitar teacher Justin. Good luck.

I'm not a pedal guy but bought this on a lark - plugged it in and what fun it is. Besides just playing with it I use it when I go thru the daily scale practice - they are no longer boring - maybe a looper next.

I wish your site had mentioned this was a Monophonic pedal. As such, I can't use it to down-tune my guitar and play chords. Worse still, you label it as a bass pedal, but it doesn't work properly below low A, so I cant use it with my bass. And it really changes the tone of the sound, and adds a lot of noise if you follow it with high-gain pedals. I am really disappointed.

The Donner Harmonic Square 7 Octave pedal is versatile, transparent, and noise-free. It exceeds my expectations in every regard. Every Donner pedal I own (this is my 6th) has been very quiet, both in by-pass and active modes. This one is no exception. I still do not need a noise gate at the end of my effects chain. What impressed me most about the pedal is the natural harmony it produces. I knew that it would be versatile with the 7 modes as well as the flat/sharp toggle switch. But I actually expected the "wet" harmonic sound to be artificial and tinny, as well as slightly delayed and phased. Much to my pleasant surprise, the "wet" harmonic comes out as natural as the "dry" note going into the pedal. The "dry" and "wet" levels allow me to fine-tune the output for precision. My audience (even the seasoned musicians) could not tell which note I was playing and which note the pedal was producing to harmonize. Being the lone guitarist in the band, I can now play leads with a touch of harmony when needed to add that little bit of extra richness at precise moments in a song.

I was hesitant but decided to give the Donner octave pedal a try. Now I am pleasantly surprised. The pedal works very well for my needs and does a decent job on power chords. Just what I needed to really fatten up the sound. Very low noise floor is a big plus. As for durability, time will reveal the answer to that question.

I've never used an octave pedal before so I wasn't sure what to expect. For the money, I'm impressed. It's very tweakable and is fun to play. If you want a cheap octave pedal that you can play around the house, this is for you.

With an impressive 2 octave range, Donner's Harmonic Square adds an incredible array of tonal variety and texture suitable for many different playing styles. with the 3 way switch in the sharp position, one octave up faithfully reproduces the sound of a 12 string guitar, and at two octaves, with proper chord voicings, can even approximate a mandolin. In the flat position, one octave will emulate an electric or upright bass. Two octaves moves into more organ/synth type tones. While all the increments in between will add depth and character to leads or solos, not all of them will be suitable for chords. Adjusting the wet and dry levels will allow for more balance and dynamic possibilities. By far the most impressive feature of this pedal is that even in the center "detune" mode, it holds both the dry and effected note at a steady pitch without the "warble" produced by its more costly competitors. Sturdy construction and quality sound makes Donner a welcome new favorite addition to my pedal board. Highly recommended.

I here's a shot of my home made pedal board with my new additions the Deluxe tuner and the Harmonic Square 7. I can't believe the flexibility of the Sq7!!! It can add a bass line under your lead, harmonic runs, and can make your 6 string sound like a Rick 12 string. I have just experimented a little with it but I can safely say that it is the best bargain I've seen for the money. Try one and you will love it.

Great little pedal, definitely worth the price. I haven't noticed any hum or decrease in quality. Quite versatile in pitch shift up and down steps and octaves. Blend knobs work as they should. Granted this is a niche pedal, but it's a lot of fun to harmonize, even harpsichord, and then make a guitar into a base or play lead towards the nut. Super fun.

Okay... I'm not sure if I'm the only one out there who was looking for a GREAT detune pedal for a GREAT price to capture something close to the Van Halen: For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tones. I see a ton of videos on YouTube and reviews here that discuss using this thing for harmonies (it is, afterall, called Harmonic Square), but it is so much more than that! Alot of the "affordable" detune pedals have similar functions to this one, but in the case of the Mooer Pitchbox, it lacks the ability to mix your wet and dry signals at the pedal. I cannot stress enough how absolutely important this is for the effect I was looking for. I swear, you could not find a better deal than this! I grabbed my guitar for a quick test, and 2 hours later, I'm finally putting it down for a break. This little red box is incredible...

I've been through a ton of octavers and this one has a nice clean low octave and it tracks well. Sincerely, it's not only the best of the chinese pedals, it beats Boss and TC electronics too!

The Bees Knees! Tracks super well. Low octave is clear and easy for looping bass parts. The detune setting even has some great chorus sounds.

It's a fifty dollar pedal. It's tiny. It has tons of options. This pedal is great for experimenting with a pitch-shift option, but it has two drawbacks: frequency and speed. The pedal is simply not able to octave down a outside of the standard range. The octave up works impressively pretty much everywhere. It will reasonably do +2 octave above the 12th fret on the high e. The only thing I would need for this to be perfect is being able to pitch down a dropped D. If you pitch octave down at a low E or lower, it gets warbly and distorted, not really producing a clear wet signal, and vibrato gets even messier. The other problem is speed. If you are looking at like some Matt Bellamy or Tom Morello guitar work where (presumably using a Digitech Whammy) they switch between octave up and normal, the footswitch can be hard to activate that quickly. The small footprint of the pedal is amazing and, while the two level knobs are small, I think the overall size does not compromise function or usability. The pedal is impressively able to handle chords and bends and is overall a great value for a home/amateur/DIY player.

I'm a bass player and used to the boss oc-2, for the price this pedal is great and adds a nice fun tone and the settings are a lil different than most octave pedals I've used but its a great pedal for the price and how small it is.

Was really on the fence on this, was looking for a more ~expensive~ pedal because I figured this couldn’t be very good for the price. Long story short, I was wrong this pedal is great and does exactly what it says it’ll do. I’ve seen some octavers have trouble with more than one note, so far I think this one can handle power chords, up to 3 maybe 4 notes, which is great and all you really need. Also the packaging was way better than I expected.

Best dollar you can spend to dial in tons of overtones from sub bass to hyper harp. Tracks like a pro for half the dough. Small box tucks in nicely with other pedals. Really quite magical that so much can be done with just one little pedal. Donner got this one done really, really well.

Sounds really good for a small price to pay. You can play with the knobs for dry and wet. You can also choose a lot of sounds with this pedal, experiment and explore. Overall is 4/5. There is always a room for improvement. It would be better if it had a level knob, but I guess that’s too much to ask for a cheap pedal.

I really dig this pedal. It is my go-to when I want to add some flavor to my tone. The bass get deep and thick. I really love the detune settings.

This is a super cool pedal! I especially like the octave changes for single string melodies. Very much gives a 60’s vibe when you do and definitely adds some thickness to the sound. Don’t let the price fool you... I use lots of name brand pedals and I would say Donner hangs with any of them in regards to tone and quality.
