I picked this up for my husband who is a former DJ. He hasn't been able to do mixes for so many years due to arthritis and getting old. I wanted to find something that he "enjoyed" but without all the hand work that he used to do. Here we have a Bluetooth MIDI controller. I ordered this and now that I have this home, I do want to say this is a really neat concept. My husband absolutely is enjoying this new apparatus. Below, I will outline some of the features that led me to choose this over similar ones on the market.
*Design: MIDI Controller, Portable and Compact Size- Built in looper- Synthesizer- IOS- Android and Windows compatible
*50 different presets for Bass, Chord etc.
*128-bar built in recording - this is a great feature for sure
*3 Auto-Quantization modes
*Advanced parameter editing
All in all, this is a really well designed and constructed bluetooth groove box. Based on a good experience, and how much entertaining this has provided my husband- I would recommend this to other consumers. As far as price point, I feel that this is an accurate price justified by performance and usage. Thanks for reading my review. I hope it was informative and useful. :)

It works ok. It's functional on the go and does a good job filling in functionally. The sound quality is a little less than, but for what it is and the quick capabilities, it is a good value for the money.

I have a few Donner music instruments and equipment, all of which are well functioning with good quality. The Donner D1 Beat Machine does not disappoint. It has a compact design, packed with features, and comes with an easy-to-use interface right out of the box.
The built-in sounds and patterns mean you can get started without needing to connect to a computer. While the included instruction manual provides a just a very basic overview, we can also download the PDF guide from the official website which provides more helpful and in-depth information. The touch pads are responsive, and the device's overall design is intuitive, with well-spaced buttons and an informative LCD screen.
Overall, the D1 combines practicality with powerful features, making it a worthwhile investment. It is a great choice for both beginners and experienced users.

The device comes in a printed box with an elegant design.
There are 16 illuminated touch buttons. All are very sensitive.
The sound is exaggerated for a small box. It can also be played through headphones. The device can also be used as a Bluetooth receiver.
The device itself has about 50 different sounds that can be infinitely modified.
Installing the app by registering brings a lot of new things. You can compose and arrange your own songs from a huge database of instruments. It sounds great.
The device itself can also be used as a MIDI controller. Ableton Live recognizes this and can assign keys.

I like how intuitive this is. The push putting don’t get in the way of creativity. In fact, the push buttons are very responsive. The sound volume is a lot louder than my current cell phone. Lots of features and ways to create music on a portable synthesizer!!!

This sound synthesizer is really cool. I can just tap, drag, tap for a long time, tap for a short time. I can slide my fingers and produce the sound I like. When I get the tone right, I immediately record it and transfer it to the software on my tablet or PC, which by the way are free to download. I'm still learning to compose and this device came to help me. I recommend it.

I can play for hours without needing to charge, which makes it ideal for long practice sessions or gigs.

It has everything I need, from rhythms to tones to recording features. It’s like having a mini studio that I can take anywhere.

I’m a beginner, but I feel like this instrument will grow with me. It’s easy to start with, yet has enough advanced features to keep me challenged as I improve.

I’m amazed by the endless sound options! I can experiment with so many different voices and effects. This instrument has brought a lot of creativity to my music.
I love how lightweight and compact it is. It’s perfect for carrying to rehearsals or even playing outside on a sunny day.

Very compact product.
There are many different kinds of sounds for various instruments, so you can create your own music.
However, I don't have the talent to write music.
I think it is good for those who can make a little sound source.

Full edit to this review, August 26 2024: in the last week, the Donner Support folks fixed all of the connectivity issues with the Medo Synth, so now you can connect via bluetooth to Donner Play on mobile devices, and also use Donner Control and Medo Synth software on laptop/desktop devices connected via USB. This means that you can also use the Medo as a mini MIDI controller in your favorite recording software, too! In the last week, I've spent more time learning to use the device, moving work done directly on it onto a computer, downloading other sounds from Donner to try out on it, and messing with it like a digital version of a modular synth in the Medo Synth software program, where it especially shines by being able to use lots of gestural controls to change the sound when you tilt the device, shake it, or move it forward or side to side. It's very interesting!
Now that it connects to the Donner software ecosystem and feels much more full-function, I'm enjoying it a lot, and I've revised my rating up to five stars. For the price, this is a powerful way to start experimenting with gesturally-controlled synthesis, and a fun portable way to demo ideas.
The onboard sounds are interesting (and now you can try out more using the Donner software), the sampler works well and is fun to play around with, and you can do some downright experimental work by playing around with the Medo Synth software. And you can lay down some basic 4-part ideas using the onboard sequencer, which gives you tracks for percussion, bass, lead, and sampler. The Medo is a fun, compact little tool that literally fits in my jeans pocket, so I can lay down little ideas on the go, and work with them later.
I do have one major issue that I hope Donner will consider for a future firmware update, though: I would love to see an additional "chromatic" scale added to the the scale list available in the device. Currently, it only works with major, minor, major pentatonic, and minor pentatonic, and if you want notes outside of whatever key/scale you're working with, you have to try to do a momentary transposition, which is super clunky. Even with the reduced range, I'd rather have a chromatic option that I could manipulate with an octave up/down pair of keys--perhaps it could be done with buttons 1-12 being a chromatic octave, and then 13 and 14 could be an octave down/up? If that could be implemented, I think I could rule the world with the Medo!

As a long time piano/keyboard player, I enjoy dabbling in MIDI stuff whenever I have some spare time. But...I don't have a lot of room in my home office for a keyboard anymore so I was hoping that I would find something just like this that would let me dabble so I can make some simple tracks or loops for videos and podcast themes, etc. This little controller more than does the trick, in fact, it's pretty impressive!
I have a Donner guitar and a Donner piano as well and they are great - so I had a certain level of expectation from this too. Happy to say that it more than met every single one. Here are just a few of the things that I love about it:
1. The size is a very obvious advantage. It gives you a rich host of tools in a box that is about the size of two AirPods cases together. It fits in your hand and there's still room left LOL. A small footprint is always nice but in this case, it shows a great use of space and an intuitive, smart design.
2. It is super easy to use. Entirely touch screen, a quick glance of the instructions gives you the basics and you can easily take it from there. It helps if you are used a MIDI controller before, but even if you haven't, you can get going with this thing in a very short time.
3. So many sound options! No idea how large the sound library even is, because I've been playing with this thing steadily since it arrived earlier today and I still haven't heard all the options.
4. The synth and the looper are built in, so you don't need anything else for this to be SUPER useful.
5. Not only is there a ton of sound options, there are a ton of gestures too, so you can bend, slap, slide and much MUCH more on those sounds beyond that.
6. It charges quickly and has a great battery life. Again, it's been on all day since I got it and I'm actively using it...not a blip or hiccup and there's still plenty of juice. Nice!
7. You can capture your OWN sounds in seconds - literally - and use that for sampling as well. It's super easy to add beats to anything pretty much! Had some fun doing that with my cat's meowing LOL
8. The touch function on it is very responsive so it's an easy press to get what you want.
Overall, this is an absolutely fantastic MIDI that is reasonably priced, feature rich, easy to use, and fantastic for both casual users and pros alike. I highly recommend it!!
